Scoring two goals in the opening 15 minutes of play, the Camden Military Academy soccer team kicked off its season with an impressive 5-1 home win over Orangeburg Prep in a game played last Friday.

Head coach Moshen Ferjani’s squad dominated the play, especially in the early going. Spartan captain Mathew McGuinness got the hosts on the board first with a quick goal. Senior Ignacio Chamon added the second CMA goal with a long range strike to make it 2-0.

Ferjani said his defense, led by seniors Taylor-Kamara and Anass Benayada kept the opponents at bay until Orangeburg Prep scored its only goal on a penalty kick.

CMA midfielder Santiago Villalobos, with two assists, played a crucial role in the second half distributing the ball. Striker Max Zaslower added two goals in the second half while CMA right wing Adamou Diabate scored one.

“It’s always a great thing for the morale of the team to start the season with a win like this”, said Ferjani. “Both (CMA assistant coach Jair) Ararat and I looking forward to the challenges ahead.”
