Andrew Jackson scored in every inning, save for the third, as the host Volunteers downed rival North Central, 12-2, in Monday’s regular season baseball opener for both sides.

The Volunteers closed the game by the 10-run rule, scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The hosts took a 3-0 lead after one frame before the Knights scored a run in the second, which was answered by an AJ pair in the home half of the frame. NC scored its final run of the night in the third to close the gap to 5-2. The Vols tacked on four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to go up, 11-2.

NC collected five hits in the game, with sophomore first baseman Ryan Baker having a pair of singles, one of which drove in a run. Andrew Galuppi plated the second run for the guests with a sacrifice fly. Tyler Bowers, Tyler Harris and Raijon Jones each had a single for Robbie Cash’s squad.

Freshman Broderick Gaither got the starting nod on the mound for the Knights and worked the first 3.1 innings of the game before Troy Teal came on in relief in the middle of the fourth inning.

NC travels to meet Chesterfield on Thursday before returning home Saturday to play the Providence Athletic Club in a 1 p.m. start.
