Playing their first match since spring break, the Camden girls’ soccer team showed little signs of rust in a 3-0 victory over Andrew Jackson in Kershaw on Tuesday.

That same night, the Lugoff-Elgin girls breezed to a 4-0 win over Ridge View.

In Kershaw, the Lady Bulldogs and host Lady Volunteers were unable to take advantage of early scoring chances. Camden broke the scoreless tie midway through the first 40 minutes when Serena Hayes followed up a hard shot on the AJ net by teammates Venus Sumpter. Hayes was able to put away the rebound for what proved to be the winning goal.

Later in the half, Sumpter found the back of the nets as she took pass from Shan Woody which gave the visitors a 2-0 lead after the first half of play.

Camden dominated play in the second half and scored the lone goal of the second 40 minutes with Sumpter finding Hayes with a pass which Hayes sent home for a third goal.

Camden, which travels to A.C. Flora tonight for a Region 4-AAA match, improved to 4-6 with the victory.

L-E blanks Blazers: The Lady Demons of Lugoff-Elgin won their second straight region 4-4A outings on Tuesday by shutting out visiting Ridge View, 4-0.

Carl Spoto’s troops went into spring break with a 4-0 win over conference foe Westwood in a match played on March 22.

The Lady Demons received goals from Katie Hoffman, Bailey Lewter, Jaylin Smith and Sophia Moschella while Whitney Osborne, Ashley Smith and Dena Stanley added assists.

Dena Stanley and Sarah Turner combined for the shutout for L-E which improved to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in conference matches.

The Lady Demons will head to Spring Valley tonight for a 7 p.m. 4-4A match.
