Post 17 American Legion tryouts set

ROSS HOUGH WILL return to the Post 17 Senior team this summer after having been a freshman at Erskine College this past year.

Tryouts for the James Leory Belk Kershaw County Post 17 American Legion baseball teams will begin this week for the P-17 Junior squad and then, Monday, May 16 for the Senior squad.

Both sets of tryouts will be conducted at American Legion Park on Ehrenclou Drive in Camden.

Here is the information on both teams and the start of tryouts:

Junior Legion: The first night of tryouts for the P-17 Junior squad will be on Thursday, May 12 at 6 p.m.

The KC Juniors will be under the direction of first-year head coach Will Powers who will be assisted by Brandon Kersey and Robbie Powers.


Senior Legion: The first night of tryouts for the P-17 Senior squad will be on Monday, May 16 at 6 :30 p.m. The 17ers will play in a pre-season tournament in Florence beginning on Saturday, May 21.

Former Camden High standout Tyler Pike is the new head coach in 2016. His assistant coach will be former CHS and USC-Aiken All-American  shortstop Stephen Carmon, who was a 13th round pick of the San Diego Padres in 2012. Carmon played three seasons in the Padres’ organization before his career was cut short by an injury.
