The Wal-Mart FLW Bass Fishing League will stop at Lake Wateree on Saturday, June 4 for South Carolina Division anglers with an event on Lake Wateree. Up to 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively, in the one-day tournament.

Clearwater Cove Marina will serve as the tournament headquarters.

Competitors will take off from Clearwater Cove at 7 a.m. on Saturday with weigh-in held at Clearwater Cove Marina at 3 p.m.

Registration is still going on at the Wal-Mart Super Center in Camden through 4 p.m. today.

Lake Wateree is expected to fish well for this tournament. A strong bass bite is being reported near shallow grass as well as in 10- to 15-foot depths around specific types of main-lake structure. Anglers targeting bass in these areas will be seen using a variety of lures including buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs and soft-plastic creature baits. The winner of this event will likely need to bring a 15-pound, five-bass limit to the scale.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 50 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing, the BFL All-American. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Costa FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
