Elgin Pharmacy, owned by Pharmacists Freddy Mubarak and Tony Casey, marked 30 years of business on Thursday.

“When we came here there was nothing,” Murbarak (far left) said. “You can tell Elgin has come a long way; we are blessed to be in this community. People are very good and kind, the community supports us. When we first opened, we only had one pharmacist and someone at the register … we now employ 12 people.”

Casey (second from right) added, “Pete James was mayor when we came here. We were reading the paper and saw an article where Mayor James said Elgin had just gotten a bank and now needed a drug store. We couldn’t figure out where Elgin was. We came and met with Pete.” Both owners left jobs at hospitals to open Elgin Pharmacy.
