We join in mourning the passing of a true community leader and icon, Alice Boykin.

Or rather, we join in celebrating the life of what folks around these parts would call a true “character”, for indeed, that’s who Alice Boykin was.

She was a person of prodigious ability, drive, intelligence, and accomplishment. She knew how to make things happen.  Whether it was raising her family, running a large and varied business consortium, or her loving and meticulous reinvention and resurrection of a tiny rural community in Kershaw County, her beloved Boykin, Alice Boykin went at everything full throttle. She was the very living, breathing, original definition of the term “multi-tasking” long before it ever became yet another of those annoying, in-vogue, psycho-babble clichés.

She also was blessed with the ability to pretty much take all of life with a large grain of salt. She was as well known for a rapier wit and sharp sense of humor as she was for her formidable business acumen.

As one friend said, “there really are no words adequate to describe her. Alice was simply a force.”

Indeed, and God speed.
