Camden Poets Society Chair Kay Roberson with the CPS’s new book. The CPS will hold a book signing and reception at Books on Broad on Oct. 1.

The Camden Poets Society has published a new book, “What We Keep: Passions of the Heart.”

The book is a collection of works throughout the society’s 25 year history and contains thoughts, poems and memories of members past and present, living and deceased.

The Society will be hosting a reception and book signing event from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. October 1 at Books on Broad. The event is free and open to the public. The books will be on sale at Books on Broad and during the Kershaw County Fine Arts Center’s Holiday Sales.

The Camden Poets Society was established in 1992 with the purpose of encouraging, supporting and stimulating members and the community in poetic endeavors and appreciation of poetry. Students, especially, are encouraged to attend the meetings and share their poetry.

The CPS has a number of forums and opportunities for local poets and for those who simply enjoy poetry. The CPS hosts a number of open-mic events as well as publishes “Literary Lettters – A Day in the Life of a Poet,” a monthly publication which offers local poets an opportunity to publish their work.

The CPS has two other publications, “Tuesdays on Lyttleton Street” and “Camden Poets Society 10th anniversary Collection of Poetry.” Members have also privately published some of their work.

The CPS meets from 7 to 9 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month from September through May at the Douglas-Reed House, located at 810 Lyttleton Street, Camden on the campus of the Fine Arts Center. For more information call Kay Roberson, Chair, at 438-9356.
