The Kershaw County-based Carolina Catfish finished as second runner-up in an 11-and-under baseball tournament held Sept. 10-11 at Byerly Park in Hartsville. More than 35 teams from throughout the Palmetto State took part in the two-day tournament which raised money for the Baylor Prayer Endowment and the Palmetto Health Childrens Hospital. This is all for the 7year old Baylor Teal who lost his life five years ago to neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer. A $15000 check will be donated to Palmetto Health Pediatric Childrens Center & Research Hopital as the end result of the tournament. Members of the Catfish were Landan Anderson, Logan Basham, Caleb Castles, Jacob Downer, Matt Harrison, Blaize Hill, Jacob Kerwin, Aidan Mays, Jamie Medlin, Stephen Merriweather, Jadiyn O’Neal --- who was the home run champion --- , Billy Robertson, Camden Washington and Matthew Weldon 17. The coaching staff included head coach Matthew Basham and assistant Jennifer Harrison --- in place of her husband Billy who is overseas ---, Shawn Merriweather and William Washington. The team would like to thank their sponsors: Modern Turf, Gadgets of Lugoff, Allstate of Elgin, J.B. Nealy Landscaping, Tire & Battery Wholesale, STACLAW and Cantey Builders.
