Who says lightning doesn’t strike twice?

We would like to offer our congratulations to the Camden Police Department, who recently won a new Ford Interceptor SUV in a drawing sponsored by the South Carolina Law Enforcment Networks. The new SUV is the second one in a row CPD has won and will go a long way in helping the department serve and protect the citizens of Camden. Whether one agrees or disagrees with games of chance, we are certainly happy CPD got lucky twice. While nothing is free and maintenance and upkeep will always be constant factors on the expense sheet, the fact remains that the department and by extrapolation the people of Camden have been able to add easily around $100,000 worth of brand new, versatile, useful road vehicles at no cost that will go along way to protect and save lives in our community.

Speaking of protecting and saving lives, we offer a major shout out – or is that hoot? – to several area residents: Britt Jennings, Peter Wolfram, Gayle Christison and Margaret Buckelew. They, along with help from a regional wildlife rescue center, not only saved the life of a baby Great Horned Owl, they released it and two other rescue owls into woods here in Kershaw County – the story is on the front page -- adding not only something majestic and beautiful to an already majestic and beautiful place, but also exemplifying a spirit of love and respect for life and for nature from which we can all learn a lesson. Kershaw County is lucky to have people like them call this place home.
