As you drove down Knight’s Hill Road and turned onto Country Club Road going into the Camden Country Club last weekend, it was obvious that something great was happening besides the change of weather from hot, summer-like to cold, fall-like temperatures.  Then you saw the signs pointing to the upper parking lots for team vans parking.

But what teams? Collegiate Golf teams. But from where?

The University of South Carolina was the host team and participating golf teams were from as far away as Massachusetts, Ohio, Virginia and New Hampshire and included teams from both Carolinas, as well.

The 14 participating collegiate golf teams included: Charleston Southern University, Dartmouth University, Francis Marion University, Furman University, Gardner-Webb University,  Harvard University, High Point University, James Madison University,  Presbyterian College,  University of South Carolina, University of South Carolina- Aiken, University of South Carolina-Upstate, Wofford College and Xavier University.

The format was playing 54 holes in two days. The teams played 36 holes on Saturday and then played the final 18 holes on Sunday morning.

The first round of 36 holes was played on Saturday and then, on an even colder early morning, played 18 more holes on Sunday.

The USC Gamecocks had a Saturday team score of 566, leading the tournament but came in second after James Madison’s Dukes shot even par on Sunday. USC’s final score was 859. James Madison’s Dukes had a team score of 850 to win the tournament. Wofford’s Terriers had a team score of 869; USCA’s Pacers had a team score of 877; Gardner-Webb’s Running Bulldogs had a team score of 888; Harvard’s Crimson had a team score of 888; Furman’s Paladins had a team score of 890; Charleston Southern’s Buccaneers had a team score of 890; USC Upstate’s-Spartans had a team score of 892; Dartmouth’s Big Green had a team score of 899; Francis Marion’s Patriots had a team score of 900 ; Presbyterian’s Blue Hose had a team score of 905; High Point’s Panthers had a team score of 913 and Xavier’s Musketeers had a team score of 927
