After several months of scuttlebutt back and forth, two new popular franchises are coming to Camden.

Firehouse Subs and Kay Jewelers are definitely coming to Springdale Plaza, possibly as soon as June 2017, according to Charles Vita, owner of ProVest Properties, owner of Springdale Properties.

“We hope to start construction very shortly,” Vita said. “We’re gone through a lengthy process – we actually started discussions last July.”

Vita is referring to a new 6,600 square foot building slated for the Springdale Property adjacent to Arby’s. Plans for the building, which is designed to house three commercial tenants, have been reviewed and approved by the city of Camden, according to City Building Official John Burns.

Vita said he was pleased and excited with the project.

“I was absolutely delighted to finally be able to buy that Springdale Plaza property – I always liked it and thought it had a great future,” Vita said. “My visits to Camden have been wonderful – I have met great people and I really love the town and the area.”

Vita also said he greatly appreciates the city’s welcoming attitude and business friendly stance.

Rumors of a Starbuck’s Coffee and a Fire House Subs locating in Camden have been swirling for some time.  While Firehouse Subs is no longer a rumor, Vita was unable to confirm that Starbucks is going to be the third tenant in the new building. Nonetheless, he did say he hoped to have an announcement as to who the third tenant would be in the near future.

Vita also said ProVest has been in discussions with several companies, at least one of whom is in the designer/gourmet coffee market.

If all goes well, construction on the new building could start as soon as January 2017 with tenants able to move in by July 2017.
