NC boys take down Cheraw

Ja Morant scored 29 points, while breaking the Crestwood High School career scoring mark in the process, in leading the Knights to a 77-71 win over visiting Lugoff-Elgin on Tuesday.

The loss dropped Garrett Knight’s Demons to 0-5 in Region 6-4A play.

L-E had a one-point lead with 40 seconds left and was in possession of the ball before the Knights staged an improbable late-game comeback.

Senior guard Robert Samuel led L-E with 23 points while junior guard Kevon Roberson was next with 19. Junior forward Bradwin Salmond and senior center Elliott Campbell were next for the Demons with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

In the girls’ game, Crestwood thumped the Lady Demons, 68-8.

Von Duncan’s squad dropped to 0-5 in conference play with the setback.

Knights upend Cheraw: Two nights after a lackluster start in a non-region loss to Camden, the North Central boys rebounded by handing host Cheraw a 64-54 defeat on Wednesday night in Chesterfield County.

The victory gave Kerry Hayes’ squad a 3-4 record in Region 4-AA, putting the Knights (6-9) in fourth-place in the seven-team circuit.

In the girls’ contest, the host Lady Braves upended North Central 59-32.

The loss dropped Mitch Lowder’s squad to 1-6 in 4-AA play and 4-11 overall.

Tonight’s games: Basketball fans in Kershaw County will have their choice of which games to attend tonight as all three schools will be at home.

Camden will play host to Fairfield Central in a key Region 4-AAA pairing. Lugoff-Elgin entertains Hartsville and it will be Pink Out Night inside the Demons Den while North Central will welcome Lee Central to The Castle in Boonetown.

All three doubleheaders tip off at 6 p.m. with the girls’ game.
