Umpires' clinic set for Saturday

The Kershaw County Parks & Recreation Department is hosting an umpiring clinic for all prospective baseball and softball umpires who would like to call games beginning with the 2017 spring seasons.

 The clinic will be director by Allen Judy, the KCP&RD’s Umpire-in-Chief, on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Larry Doby Complex, located at 384 Ballfield Road in Camden.

Baseball, softball registration closes today: Today is the final day to resgister for the Kershaw County Parks and Recreation Department’s 2017 youth baseball and softball seasons.

Both seasons begin play in March.

Here are the leagues for baseball and their age limits: 

T-Ball (co-ed) ages 4 & 5; Coach Pitch (co-ed) ages 5 & 6; Coach Pitch Baseball (7 & 8); Dixie AAA (9 & 10); Dixie Ozone ( 11 & 12); Dixie Boys (13 & 14) and Dixie Majors (15-19)

The cut-off age for T-ball through Dixie Boys Leagues is April 30, 2017.

Here are the leagues for softball and their age limits: 

Dixie Darlings (coaches pitch) ages 7 & 8; Dixie Angels (fast pitch) ages 9 & 10; Dixie Ponytails (fast pitch) ages 11 & 12; Dixie Belle/Debs (fast pitch) ages 13-18.

The cut-off age for coaches pitch and fast pitch is Jan. 1, 2017.

The registration fee for youth sports is $40.
