The internationally acclaimed EQUUS Film Festival Winners Tour returns to Camden for the second year this weekend.  The city of Camden has been selected as host location for the Film Festival, billed as the world’s premier showcase for domestic and international feature films, documentaries and short films in which the horse is put center stage.

Chosen over other locations such as Charleston, Aiken, Greenville, Charlotte and Tryon, N.C., Camden is the only stop the tour will make in the Carolinas.

“We are thrilled that this prestigious film festival is returning to Camden,” Camden Mayor Alfred Mae Drakeford said.  “Our deeply rooted equestrian heritage and thriving equine industry is central to Camden’s appeal as a tourist destination. Clearly our unique style of living and quality of life, distinguishes Camden from many other small cities in America.”

The film festival, which will run Friday and Saturday, will feature a variety of events around Camden. Chief among them include the two days screening at Camden’s Little Theatre.  The festival is expected to draw film and horse lovers from around the country along with film makers, documentarians and equestrian-focused artisans, according festival organizers.

The festival was created by Illinois horse breeder Lisa Diersen to highlight and award the diverse and creative efforts of those who artistically pay homage to the horse. New York City hosts the annual international festival, and features more than 150 pieces of film, from horse related commercials to wounded warrior stories and feature length documentaries.
