Training group preps for Clinic Classic 5k

The KershawHealth 5K Training Group meets every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday at the Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County to help runners and walkers prepare for the upcoming 10th Annual Clinic Classic on April 29, 2017. All fitness levels welcome

Registration for the KershawHealth 5k Training Group is $50 and includes two T-shirts, training sessions three times a week leading up to the McDonald’s 5k run/walk and the Camden Family Care one-mile run Clinic Classic, race registration fee and a timing chip for the event.

Training begins on Sunday, Feb. 19, at the Community Medical Clinic located at 110C-East DeKalb Street in Camden.

The group will meet every Sunday at 2 p.m. and every Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. leading up to the race on April 29. The group will not meet on Maundy Thursday or Easter Sunday.

Torill Nelson, Susan Didato and Sharon Blakeney of will be leading all the training sessions. Nelson, who has competed in the Boston Martahon among her many running feats, is a family nurse practitioner at Camden Family Care and has been instrumental in planning and organizing the Clinic Classic for the past 10 years. Blakeney is an avid runner who has been a coach for this training group it started. Didato is the development director at the Community Medical Clinic.

The Clinic Classic offers a USATF certified 5K course that winds through Camden’s historic district. All proceeds benefit the Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County.

The Clinic Classic offers a USATF certified 5K course that winds through Camden’s historic district. All proceeds benefit the Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County.

The event includes the McDonald's 5K Run/Walk and the Camden Family Care 1-Mile Run. 

The Clinic Classic begins and ends at the Clinic, located at 110-C East DeKalb Street, Camden, SC. (behind the United Way building). Awards will go to the top male and female participants as well as runners of all age groups.

Race packets can be picked up at the Clinic Friday, April 28 from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. or on race day beginning at  7 a.m.

The race begins at 8:30 am

Registration options are as follows:

$25: Registration entry fee for the Camden Family Care 1 Mile Run/Walk.

$25: Registration entry fee for the McDonald’s 5K Run/Walk

$30: Registration entry fee for the McDonald's 5K Run with timing chip. (Walkers are welcome)

$50: Registration for the KershawHealth 5k Training and McDonald’s 5k Run/Walk. This option includes two t-shirts, training sessions three times a week leading up to the race, and race registration with a timing chip. 

Tickets will no longer be available to purchase online after April 1. Late registrations can be purchased on race day for an additional $5. T-shirts are not guaranteed for late registrations. The race will proceed rain or shine. No refunds.
