Hartsville upends Demons

Hartsville scored 13 runs in the first three innings and went on to a 15-2 victory over Lugoff-Elgin in a Region 6-4A game played Tuesday night in Optimist Field.

The win gave the visitors a 3-0 conference mark while the Demons a 2-1 record in league play heading into tonight’s rematch in Kelleytown.

The Red Foxes scored six runs on four hits to jump to a 6-0 lead after the first half inning of play. L-E countered with a run in the home portion of the frame as J.C. Legrand rapped a one-out single to right and went to third when Chase Galloway got aboard on an error. Chase Roberts brought Legrand in with a sacrifice fly to center.

Hartsville answered that by scoring five times in the second and adding a pair in the third to hike its lead to 13-1.

L-E added a run in the fourth as Josh Ayer got aboard with a two-out, two-base error and scored from second base on a Hunter Coleman triple to center.

HHS scored two more runs in the fifth in a game stopped after five frames by the 10-run rule.

The hosts used four pitchers on the night who combined to allow 11 earned runs and 12 hits while fanning three Red Fox batters and walk,ing five.

The Demons were limited to four hits on the night with Coleman’s triple and a single each from Noah Rabon, Zac Branham and Legrand.
