The South Carolina High School League state baseball playoffs begin next Tuesday with the softball playoffs starting next Tuesday. The double-elimination events continue with second round baseball games set for Thursday with second round softball contests on deck for next Saturday.

All three Kershaw County baseball squads qualified for the postseason while the Camden and Lugoff-Elgin softball teams also played their way into the tournament.

Since there were still games to be played last night and tonight, not all pairings are confirmed. Here is what is known for the five local entries.

Camden: The Bulldogs hosted winless Columbia in Thursday’s regular season finale. A Camden victory would lock up the Region 4-AAA championship and Denny Beckley’s squad would enter the District 4 tounament as a number one seed and would host the fourth place finisher from Region III, which is currently Clinton --- but that may change --- next Tuesday at American Legion Park in Camden. Win or lose its opening round game in this scenario, CHS will host next Thursday’s second round game against either the second-place finisher from Region 2 (currently Powdersville) or, Pendleton, the third-place entry from Region 1.

Lugoff-Elgin: Barring a major upset in tonight’s home twinbill with Crestwood, the Demons will finish second in Region 6-4A and will host next Tuesday’s District 8 opener against Marlboro County, the third-place finisher from Region 7, in a 7 p.m. start at Optimist Field. The other half of the bracket is topped by the first place finisher from Region 8 (which will be Colleton County, if it beats to Berkeley tonight or, Beaufort, should Colleton County lose tonight) which will face the fourth-place entry from Region 5, which will be the winner of tonight’s game between Orangeburg-Wilkinson and Lower Richland. Randy Stokes and company can only host next Thursday’s second round game if the fourth place team upsets the top seed.

North Central: The Knights will finish third in Region 4-AA, regardless of what happens in tonight’s home game with Central. Robbie Cash and his squad will head to Ninety Six for Tuesday’s District 1 opener in a 7 p.m. start. The top half of the bracket will have the Region 1 champion Chesnee hosting Keenan. NC will be at home Thursday only if the opponent is Keenan and that will be a 6:30 p.m. start. Should NC go to Chesnee, it will be a 7 p.m. game.

Camden: Camden defeated Columbia on Wednesday to wrap up fourth place in Region 4-AAA. The probable first round opponent for Lynn Loooney’s Lady Bulldogs is Chapman, which is leading Region 3. The other half of the District 3 bracket has the Region 1 runner-up hosting the third-place entry from Region 2. Either way, CHS will travel for next Saturday’s second round pairing.

Lugoff-Elgin: If the Lady Demons sweep Crestwood tonight, James Marlow’s charges will be the Region 6-4A champion and would host the fourth-place entry from Region 7 next Thursday. L-E will host next Saturday’s second round pairing and face either the Region 7 runner-up or the third-place finisher from Region 5.
