KCMA Spring Instrumental Showcase Thursday

 The Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County is pleased to present the Kershaw County Music Association (KCMA) annual  Spring Instrumental Showcase Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Wood Auditorium. Admission is free and the public is invited to enjoy hearing several of the 2016 KCMA Scholarship winners including Guitar Scholarship winner Robert Keen (Daniel Riddick, teacher) and pianist Joanna Ni, Junior Scholarship winner (Becky Tafel, teacher.) Also performing will be students of local music instructors Shana Herndon, Debbie Gustafson, Alena Pagel, Patty Tolbert, Glenn Price and Robert Slade. Among the students participating are: Joshua Heriot, Isabel Tarte, Sarah Swan, Andrew Kilgore, Sarah Gustafson, Lydia Gustafson, Elizabeth Gustafson, Jenna Strobel, Caylee Hayes, Alana Tummond, Juliana Altieri, Taylor Jones, Anna Kate Tolbert, Caroline Tolbert and Makalaylee Catoe. The audience will hear vocal selections from the new Community Concert Choir under the direction of Bo Dickinson. The Drum and Fife Corps, along with a small band from Camden Military Academy, will also perform.

   “The Music Association’s Instrumental Showcase celebrates Kershaw County’s phenomenal young musicians and gives the public a chance to realize the talent we have right here in our county,” said Mary Ellen Jordan, FAC board member, member of the KCMA and the Community Concert Choir and longtime volunteer for the FAC. “We thank all the tireless efforts of their instructors, who inspire them.”

  The Kershaw County Music Association is an affiliate organization of the FAC and one of its founders. The KCMA was formed to encourage, support and promote young musicians and to foster knowledge and appreciation of quality music in Kershaw County. In addition to the Spring Instrumental Showcase and the Fall Choral Showcase, the KCMA provides other opportunities for students and adults to perform; assists with the Fine Arts Center’s School Arts Performance Series and the FAC’s Chamber Music Concerts; sponsors the Community Concert Choir; and coordinates and partially funds the prestigious Brevard Scholarship Competition.
