King Kat tournament draws more than 120 anglers

The Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of Lake Wateree April 28-29. In the 2-Day Super Event, more than 120 anglers from six different states competed not only for $11,000 in cash and prizes, but also for the opportunity to qualify for the 2017 Cabela’s King Kat Northern and Southern Championship. 

“A special thank you to the City of Camden for hosting the event and making these tournaments possible,” King Kat Trail Event Director Jeremy Coe said. “The City of Camden and Kershaw County have definitely made us feel like we were at home and the anglers love coming to fish Lake Wateree. We are looking forward to returning for the Eastern Championship, October 6 and 7, 2017.”

Gene and Damon Gibson took first place in the tournament, weighing in at 193.22 pounds and earning $4,000. 

Taking second place were David and Larry Henderson, both of Rock Hill, with a total weight of 179.30 pounds and earning $2,000. John Terry of Gastonia and Jamie Williams of Fort Lawn took third place, weighing in at 176.26 pounds and earning $1,000.

Big Fish of the Event went to Evan Martin and Larry Godwin weighing in at 42.54 pounds and earning $1,180, plus a 30 gallon X-treme Bait Tank.
