Emerald proved to be a mere bump in the road for the Camden High boys’ tennis team which advanced to Monday’s third round of the AAA Upper State tournament with a 6-0 whitewashing of visiting Emerald in a match played last Thursday on the Roger Smoak Tennis Courts.

The Bulldogs, who defeated Woodruff, 4-2, in last Tuesday’s opening round, hosted Clinton in Monday’s Upper State semifinal with the winner of that pairing hosting the winner between West-Oak and Powdersville in Wednesday’s AAA Upper State finale.

The AAA state championship match will be played on Saturday at noon at the Cayce Tennis Center.

Head coach Tim Webb’s Bulldogs ran past Emerald by taking all six contested matches in straight sets.

Wilson Pope won his first singles pairing with Emerald’s Jack Davenport, 6-1, 6-2. In second singles, K.P. Cassidy took down Layton Logan, 6-0, 6-3, while Robert Lackey had an easy go of it at third singles in downing Landon Marchant, 6-1, 6-0.

In fourth singles, Mac Lindsey breezed past Jack Wiseman, 6-2, 6-0, while Ben Batiatta tripped up Jacob Lovell at fifth singles by the counts of 6-2, 6-0.

The Dogs also won at second doubles with Will Farmer and Will Galloway teaming up for a 6-3, 6-2 win over Michael Blizzard and Andrew Higgenbotham.
