Murphy earns SEC community service honor for a second time

AUBURN JUNIOR KELLI MURPHY follows the path of a drive during play at last week’s NCAA Regional at the University of Georgia.

Auburn junior and Lugoff-Elgin High School graduate Kelli Murphy was honored by the Southeastern Conference as the league announced its annual women’s golf awards.  

Murphy earned her second straight selection` to the SEC Community Service Team. 

This year, she increased her level of service, leading the women’s golf team to second place among Auburn teams in the fall canned food drive and organized the team in purchasing Christmas gifts for needy families. She also organized a golf clinic for the Auburn Student Veterans in March.   

On the golf course, Murphy helped lead Auburn to its 21st postseason appearance in the last 22 years as the Tigers were selected to the NCAA Athens Regional.

Murphy finished tied for 36th in the 2017 SEC Championship played over the Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham, Ala. Murphy posted a 73-72-77=222 (+6) score for the 54-hole event.

In last week’s NCAA Regional  at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Murphy helped the Tigers to a 12th place finih. Individually, Murphy came in tied for 43rd after shooting a 77-75-74--226 (+10).

During her collegiate career, Murphy was the 2016 Pinehurst Challenge Runner-Up, the 2015 Bryan National Collegiate Runner-Up, a 2015 SEC All-Freshman Team and SEC Freshman of the Week (April 8, 2015)

A four-time all-state selection at L-E, where she played on the boys’ team for head coach Mike Robinson, Murphy qualified for 2013 U.S. Women’s Amateur. She competed at 2012 and 2013 U.S. Girls’ Junior, reaching the quarterfinals in 2012. A four-time Columbia Women’s City champion, she was junior medalist at 2012 Women’s TRANS National Amateur and was the 2011 and 2013 Carolina Junior Girls Champion while being  Carolina Junior Girls Runner-Up in 2012. She was also tabbed as the 2012 Carolinas Golf Association Junior Player of the Year. Murphy was also named Golfweek Junior Player of the Week in August 2011.
