Area students graduate from the Citadel

The following Kershaw County area student received degrees during the Citadel’s graduation ceremonies held May 6 in McAlister Field House: 

Charles Alexander of Ridgeway, SC (29130) graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Christopher Gibson of Lugoff, SC (29078) graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Paul Glasser of Elgin, SC (29045) graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Timothy Newsome of Camden, South Carolina (29020) graduated with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.

Donavan Knight of Lugoff, South Carolina (29078) graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology.

Members of The Citadel Class of 2017 were recognized for excellence in leadership, service and academics at commencement. The South Carolina Corps of Cadets celebrated the graduation of over 551 cadets, 7 active duty students and 23 veteran students. Of those cadets, 129 were commissioned as officers.

The 2,300 members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets are not required to serve in the military but about one-third of each class commission as officers in every branch of U.S. military service. The Citadel Graduate College offers 26 graduate degree programs with 42 concentration options, 24 graduate certificate programs, and a number of evening and online undergraduate programs. The Citadel was named Best Public College in the South by U.S. News & World Report for six consecutive years, and #1 Best Public College for Veterans in the South as well as best value out of all South Carolina colleges and universities by Forbes.
