Green Lantern Stables’ homebred Frostmourne, developed at the barn of Mickey Preger Jr. at the Camden Training Center, upset favorite Big Score to win Saturday’s $500,000 Penn Mile (Grade 2) by 1 1/4 lengths under jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr.

The 3-year-old son of Speightstown was clocked over Penn National’s firm turf in 1:35.04 for trainer Christophe Clement. It was the first graded stakes victory for Frostmourne.

The Penn Mile was the feature race on a dayy of stakes racing at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course.

Time to Travel took the lead out of the gate over Cistron, with Mo Maverick traveling in third. Frostmourne was back in fifth early on before rallying around the outside four-wide turning for home. Cistron tried to hang onto the lead but Frostmourne came on strong with a rush which took him home first under the wire, 1 1/4 lengths in front of Big Score. Cistron held on for third.

Frostmourne went off the the third favorite in the starting field of nine runners. He paid back $8.40, $4.00 and $3.20. He is now a candidate for the Belmont Derby Invitational (Grade 1) on July 8 at Belmont Park.

Bred in Kentucky, Frostmourne is out of Theatrical Leaning Tower, which Preger also developed in Camden. He was a $375,000 buy-back at the Keeneland September sale, then scored in his very first start in September last summer in an $83,000 1 1/16-mile run over the turf at Saratoga.

He was fourth in his next start, the $200,000 Pilgrim Stakes (Grade 3) at Belmont Park, then won the $100,000 Awad Stakes at Belmont on Oct. 29 in his final start as a 2-year-old.

before he was given the winter off. Frostmourne began his 2017 season with a second in the $100,000 Woodhaven Stakes at Aqueduct on April 22 before claiming his first graded stakes win on Saturday on turf listed as firm in the Penn Mile.
