Summer camp season continues

Here is the listing of youth sports camps in Kershaw County for the week of June 19:

Lugoff-Elgin Basketball Camp: The primary focus of this camp will be to teach young players basic basketball skills and fundamentals. The camp participants will also learn the concept of team play. There will be some scrimmage games and awards for free throw shooting, hustling, sportsmanship and more. There will be eight-foot goals for younger players. The camp is instructed by Lugoff-Elgin varsity head coaches, Von Duncan (L-E girls) and Garrett Knight (L-E boys) with varsity players assisting.

Dates: June 19 - 22

Location: Lugoff-Elgin High School Gym

Ages: 5 - 14 

Hours: 9 am. - Noon

Cost: $60 per camper (includes T-shirt)

Pre-registration: Required through the Kershaw County Parks & Recreation Department at 425-6009.  

North Central Youth Football Camp: Daily training sessions will include all aspects of defense, offense and specialty skills. Players will be divided into three age groups. Instructing the camp will be the first-year North Central High head football coach and NFL Super Bowl champion cornerback Tyronne Drakeford along with the NCHS varsity football staff.

Dates: June 19-21 and July 10-12

Hours: 9 a.m. – noon, snack provided 

Location: North Central High School stadium 

Age groups: 7-9, 10-12, 13-15 

Cost: $25

Golf Camp: Learn the fundamentals of golf or improve your skills in this camp taught by Matt McCarley, PGA professional. Beginners through advance golfers are welcome. 

Dates: June 19 - 22 and July 17 - 20 

Location: Camden Country Club, Knights Hill Road, Camden

Ages: 7 - 17 

Hours: 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. 

Cost: $85 per camper 

Pre-registration: Required through the Kershaw County Parks & Recreation Department at 425-6009.  

Camden High Softball Camp: Learn fundamental skills of fast pitch softball or improve your skills in the camp. Daily sessions will include defensive play, base running and hitting. Instructing the camp will be CHS varsity softball coach Lynn Looney along with her players assisting. 

Dates: June 19-23 

Location: CHS Softball Field 

Ages: 7 - 13 

Cost: $50

Hours: 9 a.m. - Noon  

Pre-registration: Required through the Kershaw County Parks & Recreation Department at 425-6009.  

Horse Riding Camp or Lessons: Summer horse camp sessions or lessons are available through the Parks & Recreation Department. Linda Klein is the instructor. Participants will become acquainted with the horse through grooming, tacking, and leading in the first level, working their way steadily towards jumping, horse show etiquette, conformation and rules of the show ring in higher levels. 

Camp dates: (Beginners) June 5 – 30; July 10 – 28; (Advanced) June 12 -16

Hours: 8:30 a.m. – noon 

Location: Voxton Farm in Camden 

Cost: $150

Ages: 6 - 18 years old 

Registration: one week in advance through the Kershaw County Parks & Recreation Department at 425-6009.  

These dates you may attend, your choice, of half day camp at $150 a week or all day camp, (by appointment) at $275 a week. Lessons are available which meet one day a week for four weeks at $120 per person (by appointment)
