Camden Mayor Alfred Mae Drakeford (back, far right) meets several of the many children participating in the Kershaw County Recreation Department’s Camp Sun Fun, one of more than 30 summer food programs in Kershaw County as they get ready to take in a movie at Camden’s Little Theater on Tuesday morning. The children had just enjoyed a free breakfast and some activities at the Kershaw County Recreation Department and would have a free lunch later that day. With the mayor and the children is the United Way of Kershaw County’s Margaret Lawhorn (far left), the program’s local coordinator, who said they served more than 25,000 lunches in June alone. The program, which runs from June 5 through August 4, is funded by a grant administered by the S.C. Department of Education. Joann Minder, the state program coordinator said the United Way of Kershaw County is the only United Way organization in the state serving as a sponsor for the Summer Food Service effort through the organizations under its umbrella.
