Kershaw County football teams begin brief scrimmage season

After having opened pre-season camp last Friday, Kershaw County’s three public school varsity football teams will get a chance to hit someone other than their own teammates when the scrimmage season opens.

Lugoff-Elgin got a jump on everyone as the Demons traveled to Blythewood for a Thursday morning scrimmage. Camden will be on the road today, heading to River Bluff for a 5 p.m. start against the Gators. North Central is also taking the bus this weekend as the Knights will be facing Lewisville on Saturday in a 10 a.m. start in Richburg.

All three schools close scrimmage action next Tuesday. Camden will host Chapin and Richland Northeast at Zemp Stadium in a three-way scrimmage originally slated for 9 a.m. start but may have to be moved to the early evening due to a problem in obtaining officials. L-E is at White Knoll for a 6:40 p.m. contest that night while North Central will entertain Robert E. Lee Academy at 6 p.m. inside Knights Stadium.

Camden Shrine Club Football Jamboree: The 42nd annual Camden Shrine Club Jamboree at Zemp Stadium in Camden  will be played on Friday, Aug . 11. The night will have six teams playing in three mini-games of two 12-minute quarters each.

The event will kick off at 6:30 p.m. 

The evening’s opener will have Buford facing A.C. Flora followed by Lugoff-Elgin and North Central in the second game. Host Camden will meet Andrew Jackson in the evening’s finale. 

Tickets will be available at the gates for $7.

The rain date is set for Saturday, Aug. 12.

Season openers: All three county public schools will open their season on Friday, Aug. 18 when Lugoff-Elgin makes the short trip across the Howard Speaks Memorial Bridge to to renew its cross-river rivalry against host Camden at Zemp Stadium. That game has been moved to an 8 p.m. start. That same night, North Central will host Eau Claire in a week zero battle. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Boonetown.

NC admission staying the same: Admission into North Central home football games will remain at $6 for the 2017 season. Lugoff-Elgin has also kept its ticket prices at $6 for this fall.

Earlier, Camden announced it would charge $7 for admission into Zemp Stadium in keeping in line with the other schools in Region 4-AAA.

Camden High selling season tickets, parking passes: Camden High School is selling reserved seats for all home football games at Zemp Stadium for $50 each. Each seat has a back rest.

Fans who purchase reserved seats for the 2017 season will have right of first refusal when the home side of the field is flipped in time for the 2018 season.

Parking passes for the reserved parking area behind the home side grandstand are also available for $25 each with the purchase of a season ticket.
