Younghans plays his way to Kornegay Junior title

Evan Younghans (pictured), a member of the Camden High School golf team, won the annual Grainger Kornegay Memorial  Junior Golf Championship played at the Camden Country Club Aug. 7-8.  

Younghans, who also won the boys’ 14-year-old division, shot an 81 for 18 holes on the first day and then carded a 38 in a second round which was shortened to nine holes due to rain.

This year’s event had a record 30 boys and girls taking part in the tournament. 

Here is a complete rundown of the champions: Thomas Bishop (boys 8-9); Hank Greenway (boys 10); David Pope (boys 11); Wiley Nash(boys 12-13); Evan Younghans (boys 14 and overall champion), Patrick Lindsay (boys 15-16) and Josie Sweat (girls champion.) In addition to the lowest score champions on the course, Sam Ferguson was selected as the recipient of the  David Parrott Memorial Sportsmanship Award.
