Labor Day is a special day

Labor Day is a special time of year for this former union member and the Medicare system always comes to mind.

In my working years, safety, healthcare, wages and seniority were especially essential topics.

The leaders in Congress are at it again, trying to take away what I think are some of the bedrock principles of our country’s labor laws and healthcare system.

I pray regularly that my union members and Medicare recipients are paying attention and do not get weary in well-doing. These attacks are not going to stop. It is our time to show the power of unity, stand up for ourselves and make our voices heard.

It took a 1971 bill, sponsored by the Democrats, to help protect inheritances and Medicare benefits to security to keep the elderly from being the poorest segment of our great country’s population.
