The Lugoff-Elgin girls golf team scored a program history-best 201 in Tuesday’s match at Camden Country Club.

The previous best team score was 226 scored earlier this year. Last year’s best team score for Zoe Dommel’s squad was 231.

Junior Michaelah Wise shot a 44 and has been the most consistent player for the Lady Demons thus far this season. The improved scoring of Tristan Ray, Greta Tautkus and Brooke Jackson were the reasons why the girls carded their team score.

Camden won the three-team match which also included A.C. Flora.

Last Tuesday, the Lady Demons traveled to Hartsville to face a deep Lady Red Fox squad that featured two very strong players in the Region 6-4A opener.

Hartsville won the match, 177-242.

Hartsville’s Tatum Warr and Emma Charles both shot even-par 36s. Wise posted the low score for the visitors with a 49 for nine holes.

On Wednesday, the Lady Demons took to the links  at Golden Hills in Lexington and finished third in a match with River Bluff and  Irmo.

Wise was the medalist for the match. The junior shot a 46. The start of the match was delayed due to a rain burst moving through at 4:30 p.m. Temperatures started to drop and the course was wet.

“It was a good experience for our beginning golfers. To play in the wet and changing conditions, really gave them a good experience, even if they weren’t as a whole really successful today” said Dommel.

The Lady Demons are scheduled to play next Tuesday at the Camden Country Club against Darlington and Cardinal Newman. The tri-match is slated for a 4:30 p.m. tee time.

Lugoff-Elgin was scheduled to play in the Lady Hurricane tournament on Thursday, August 31, but it was postponed due to predicted bad weather. Due to a scheduling conflict, they will not be able to travel to the make-up date.
