RANDY KAMBEITZ ... CHS wide receiver

About the only things which is certain about Camden’s Thursday night football game against West Florence at Florence Memorial Stadium is that it is on the schedule.

The rest will be up to Hurricane Irma and how much damage she does to the Pee Dee region should the category 5 storm make landfall in or around South Carolina.

The game itself is slated for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Camden took a 1-2 record into Friday’s home game with Cheraw. West Florence had a bye on Friday night and got the chance to scout the Bulldogs in person at Zemp Stadium.

Trey Woodberry’s squad opened the season with a 20-14 loss to Lexington in Week Zero before falling to Fort Mill (34-7) in game two. The Knights then came out on the short end of a 21-19 decision against 4A state power Myrtle Beach on Sept. 1.

West Florence is led by junior tailback Ailym Ford (5-8, 193) who has rushed for 333 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Junior Cooper Wallace and sophomore Hale Emerson have split the quarterbacking chores with Wallace having thrown for 165 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. Emerson has passed for 133 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

WF also returns senior wide out Vick Johnson (5-10, 160) who caught a pair of touchdown passes against Camden last season including the game-winning 74-yard grab with 90 seconds left in a 37-34 Knight victory.

The Knights average 140 yards on the ground and another 96 in the air through three games.

Defensively, the hosts are led by senior middle linebacker Stephon Alexander (5-11, 186) who has rung up 34 tackles in three games.
