Running in the combination of heat and humidity failed to slow down the Camden High cross country team which swept a meet in Lancaster last Wednesday for the second meet wins, respectively, of the season.

Led by a first-place finish from senior Garrett Lawson, the Bulldogs won the five-team boys’ race. In the opener, Lady Bulldog senior Julia Keen was first to the finish as CHS topped a four-team field.

Lawson claimed the top spot, posting the best time of the meet with an 18:05.  Sam Messinides (18:47), Grant Maree (19:15), K.P. Cassidy (19:30), and Ben Battiata (19:38) rounded out the top five for Camden which was followed in the team standings by  Lancaster, Westwood, Richland Northeast and Great Falls.

Many Bulldog runners achieved either their season’s best times or their personal best times during the run at Lancaster, claiming six of the top 10 finishing spots.

Seeing their fastest times so far this season were Cassidy, Battiata, Jacob Hann (20:04) and Ryan Robles (20:06).  Pavlos Pautolos (20:17), Caleb Cahn (24:20), Wren Joseph (24:37), Carter Baytes (25:05), Tanner Willson (27:50), Thomas Joseph (28:42), Nathan Flanders (29:50) and Bo Norred (29:56) all posted their personal best cross country times, as well.

Keen got Camden off to a good start in winning the girls’ portion of the meet with a finishing time of 22:49.

Mell Boucher (24:32), Heather Woolard (24:46), Megan Goodrich (27:02) and McKenzie Taylor (28:37) completed the top five for Camden.

The Lady Bulldogs took first place in the four-team meet followed by Westwood, Richland Northeast and Great Falls.

Boucher, Woolard and Sarah Guy (33:16) all achieved their season's best times on the course in Lancaster. Elizabeth West (32:07), Gracie Stines (33:55) and Elizabeth Rousseau (34:04) ran their personal best times in Lancaster, as well.

Camden returns to the course on Tuesday, Sept. 26 when they compete in a meet in Great Falls.
