Nina Bobb Long, 93, of Columbia, died on Sunday, March 20, 2011. A funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock, on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Christ Lutheran Church with The Rev. Henri Bishop officiating. Interment will follow at Woodridge Memorial Park. The family received friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Tuesday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, SC 29203. Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 1325 Winyah Dr., Columbia, SC 29203.

Mrs. Long was born on November 28, 1917 in Columbia, a daughter of the late George Bobb and Eva Driggers Bobb. Mrs. Long spent her years improving the lives of those around her. During WWII, she volunteered with the American Red Cross making bandages. She was also a hospice volunteer. Mrs. Long volunteered at Baptist Hospital for thirty-seven years. Mrs. Long also taught Sunday School for seventy-three years. She was an active member of the Lutheran Women's Organization and served on the Church Council, as well as numerous committees. Mrs. Long was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church for sixty-two years and sang in the choir until the age of ninety.

Survivors include daughter, Abbie (Jesse) Long Gates of Columbia; son, Richard (Pam) Taori Long, Sr. of Lugoff; grandchildren, Richard (Mary) Gates, Gail (Mike) Carter, Laurie Gates, Richard (Bethany) Taori Long, Jr.; eight great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. "Dick" Long; and sister, Marjorie Wedaman.

Shives Funeral Home is in charge.
