Lady Knights tune up for Saturday tourney by beating Andrew Jackson

After a first set loss, North Central stormed back to take down rival Andrew Jackson in four sets in a Region 4-AA volleyball match played inside The Castle on Tuesday.

The Lady Volunteers won the opener, 25-23 before the hostesses ran the table after that, winning 25-15, 25-12 and 25-22, to improve to 6-1 in conference action and 8-2 overall.

Alayna Johnson pounded down 18 kills for the winners while adding 24 digs, three service aces and an assist. McKenna Arrants had 11 kills, seven digs and a pair of blocks for Andy Johnson’s charges.

Madison Dixon had 11 kills along with 14 digs and an assist while Aaliyah White dished out 43 assists with 18 digs and a pair of aces. Peyton Holley had 30 digs, four assists and an ace with Tierra Preston contributing 19 digs, a kill and a block toward the winning cause.

Lady Knights host Carolina Challenge on Saturday: North Central High School will host the annual Carolina Challenge Volleyball Tournament in Boonetown on Saturday, Sept. 23.

The 12-team event will feature the host Lady Knights as well as in-county rival Lugoff-Elgin,.

Pool play begins at 8:30 a.m. and continue through 1 p.m. The single-elimination tournament will begin at 1 p.m. with the championship match scheduled for a 5 p.m. start. 

In addition to North Central and Lugoff-Elgin, the tournament field also includes West Florence, Buford, Lancaster, Sumter, Indian Land, Chesterfield, Hartsville, Robert E. Lee Academy, Gilbert and Westminster-Catawba.

Admission is $5.

“The intent of this tournament is to have a competitive field that showcases our local teams and those from area counties,” said NC head volleyball coach Andy Johnson.
