L-E golf, volleyball teams take down two Sumter County foes

Michaelah Wise posted a low score of 50 in helping the Lugoff-Elgin golf team to its third win of the season last Thursday as the Lady Demons took down host Sumter, 246-268, in a match played over the Beech Creek Golf Club in Sumter. 

Camden shot a low round of 188 to win the three-team event. Ava Neal of Camden was the low medalist shooting a 43.

After Wise, Greta Tautkus continued her improved play for the Lady Demons with a score of 59 while Kelsey Ham shot her career best with a 66. Shaliyah Hudson, a welcome addition to the team, shot a 71 for Zoe Dommel’s squad.

Lady Demons spike Lakewood: Visiting Lakewood offered little resistance to the Lugoff-Elgin volleyball team which improved to 3-0 in Region 6-4A play with a 3-0 sweep over the Lady Gators in a match played last Thursday inside the Demons Den.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Katie Ham’s charges who served up 30 aces while sending down 18 kills.

Senior Natalie Taylor and junior Sarah Turner each served 11 aces while junior Sydney Ochoa and sophomore Katie Napper had five and four kills, respectively. Turner had 11 of L-E’s 13 assists in the rout.
