The Camden boys’ cross country team, once again, overcame the heat and humidity to win their third meet of the season in a nine-team event hosted by Great Falls on Tuesday.

Running over a tough, hilly course through woody terrain, the Bulldogs had five runners place in the top 10 with senior Garrett Lawson finishing second overall in a time of 18:30.

Following Lawson for Camden were Sam Messinides (19:28, 4th place overall), Ben Battiata (19:40, 5th), K.P. Cassidy (19:40, 6th) and Grant Maree (19:55, 10th) to round out the top five for the Bulldogs. Also finishing with a time under 20 minutes, which was good for an 11th place finish overall, was Jacob Hann (19:55).  Reaching his personal best of 29:46 during the run at Great Falls was seventh-grader Bo Norred.

The CHS Lady Bulldogs returned from Tuesday’s run in Chester County with a second-place finish in an eight-team field.

Leading Camden to its runner-up spot on the evening was Julia Keen, whose time of 24:28 was good for sixth in the meet.

CHS posted a team score of 70, coming in behind Ben Lippen which scored 37 points. Buford (86 points), York Prep (104), Lewisville (121), Governor’s School (143), Great Falls (171) and Gray Collegiate (201) rounded out the field.

Mell Boucher ran a 25:12,  good for 10th place overall. She was followed to the finish line by teammates Heather Woolard (26:28, 13th overall), Megan Goodrich (26:59, 17th)  and Mary Blanks, a seventh grader who ran a personal-best 28:22 to finish in 24th place for Mark Chickering’s squad.

Camden will travel to run against rival Lugoff-Elgin next Tuesday.
