Last November, the Camden Military Academy football team waited until its final game of the season before recording their first win.

That victory came over the visiting Carolina Gladiators, 47-6.

Last Friday, the Spartans racked up their first win of the 2017 season. Again, the Carolina Gladiators were their victim as CMA returned home from the long trip to Asheville, N.C., with a 27-14 win.

The visitors scored twice in the first half to grab a 14-0 lead which they carries into the locker room at intermission.

Tailback James Sampson got the scoring started when he capped a Spartan drive by going into the end zone with a six-yard scoring run.

The Spartans went up top for their second score. This time, quarterback Harrison Montgomery found wide out Eramis Simpson with a 65-yard strike to make it a 14-0 game.

In the second half, Jay White got into the scoring half, taking off on a 60-yard scoring run. The final CMA touchdown came courtesy of the Montgomery to Simpson connection. This time, the duo hooked up on a 20-yard touchdown pass to all but put this one in the books.

The Spartans’ defense came up big throughout the evening with Nicholas Montgomery picking off a pair of Gladiator aerials while Kyle Rhodes also had an interception in the league opener for the guests.

CMA won for the first time in four outings while the Carolina Gladiators dropped to 0-6 on the season.

With CMA on its annual fall break, the Spartans have a bye this week. They will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 13 when they travel to Gray, Tenn., to take on Trinity Academy in a conference game.
