Almost as could have been expected, the North Central volleyball team made the short trip to Andrew Jackson High School in neighboring Kershaw on Thursday to meet Buford in a match which would decide the Region 4-AA champion.

The two sides, which split their two-match series this season, both completed conference play with 11-1 records.

On Tuesday, NC (14-2) held up its end of the bargain by sweeping Central in Pageland, 25-8, 25-15 and 25-9. At the same time, Buford defeated Andrew Jackson to close region play with an 11-1 mark and set up Thursday’s best-of-five pairing.

Alayna Johnson, NC’s eighth-grade hitter, enjoyed a big night at the net against the Lady Eagles with 23 kills. She also had nine digs and a service ace. McKenna Arrants was next with seven kills while adding four digs. Madison Dixon sent down six kills to go with five digs and a pair of service aces.

Aaliyah White got the offense in gear with 35 assists while chipping with five digs. Peyton Holley led the way with 11 digs. She also had four  assists and as many service aces while adding two kills for Andy Johnson’s charges.

The Lady Knights stepped out of Region 4-AA play on Monday with a three-set sweep of visiting Robert E. Lee Academy in the annual Dig Pink match in Boonetown.

NC won by identical 25-15 scores in the first two sets before winning the finale, 25-19.

Johnson led the way along the net with 11 kills to go with four digs and an assist. Dixon had eight kills while adding seven digs and a pair of service aces while Arrants had seven kills, three digs and an ace.

Tierra Preston sent down five kills and added six digs, an assist and an ace while White doled out 28 assists and had 10 digs for the winner. Holley enjoyed a big night on the defensive end with the sophomore Libero coming up with 22 digs. She added four aces, three kills and two assists
