Lugoff Garden club will meet Monday

The Lugoff Garden Club will meet Monday at the home of Margaret DeGroat, 101 Lakewood Dr., Lugoff. The social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m. The club meets the third Monday of the month from September through May. 

Vicky Bertagnolli, consumer horticulture agent, Master Gardener coordinator and local “bug geek” in Aiken County, will present a program about fire ants.

Prior to joining Clemson as an extension agent in January 2008, Bertagnolli spent seven years as a research technician for Auburn University’s Alabama Fire Ant Management Program and also worked part-time for a pest control company. Bertagnolli’s areas of expertise are imported fire ants and management, insect identification, and urban pest management using integrated pest management. Bertagnolli conducts Master Gardener training courses in Aiken and Lexington counties, is the private pesticide applicator training coordinator in Aiken County, is a coordinator for the commercial pesticide applicator licensing prep course, and makes regular appearances on SCETV’s “Making It Grow.” Bertagnolli holds a B.S. in Wildlife Sciences from Auburn University and was awarded her M.S. in Entomology from Auburn University in August 2016.
