We join the community in mourning the loss and celebrating the life of Bobby T. Jones, who passed away yesterday at the age of 84 after a courageous battle with cancer.

In all honesty, we should probably strike the mourning aspect of this editorial, as the one thing he would not want is for anyone to mourn or otherwise be sad. Indeed, if anyone ever exemplified the idea of “joie de vivre” it would be Jones.

Bobby Jones lived his life as a man possessed -- and he truly was. He was possessed of a love of life, a big personality and an intense work ethic. He was possessed of a fierce drive to get thing accomplished to make this community and this state a better place. He was possessed of a deep and undying love and devotion to his family. He was possessed of a humble, yet self-assured nature and he was possessed of a deep faith in God.

Jones served the community and the state in a variety of capacities, both high profile and behind the scenes and a much more detailed account of his life and accomplishments will be featured in Friday’s C-I.

But most of all, Bobby Jones was a good friend and positive influence for our community. We cannot ever recall a time the man was not smiling, laughing, cracking jokes and otherwise spreading cheer everywhere he went. His was an exuberant, persuasive, positive nature, not afraid to toot his own horn once in awhile -- deservedly so -- yet he never, ever forgot anyone’s efforts and assistance. Undoubtedly, people everywhere will remember Jones delivering many homemade pound cakes, signature tokens of his gratitude.

Farewell, thank you, God bless.
