A 2-year-old Cassatt girl died Monday night from injuries sustained in a two-car collision a little after 6 p.m. at the intersection of Old Georgetown Road West and Robinson Town Road.

Kershaw County Coroner David West identified the victim as Dixie Deas, who was pronounced dead after arriving at KershawHealth at 7 p.m. West said the little girl was a passenger in the rear seat of the vehicle.

S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP) Lance Cpl. David Jones said the woman driving the vehicle -- a 2006 Chrysler PT cruiser -- was traveling east on Robinson Town Road when she apparently failed to stop for the stop sign at Old Georgetown Road West. A 1986 Peterbilt tractor trailer, being driven south on Old Georgetown Road West by a Lancaster man, struck the PT Cruiser on the driver’s side.

Jones said the woman suffered injuries and was also taken to KershawHealth. He said the tractor-trailer driver was wearing a seatbelt and suffered no injuries.

Jones said the SCHP’s multidisciplinary accident investigation team, or MAIT, was still investigating the collision as of Tuesday afternoon.
