The Kershaw County Legislative Delegation -- State Rep. Laurie Slade Funderburk and state senators Thomas McElveen and Vincent Sheheen -- will host a community meeting Monday evening featuring a S.C. Department of Transportation presentation (SCDOT) titled “Rebuilding Our Roads.”

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce in the historic Robert Mills Courthouse, 607 Broad St. in Camden.

According to a press release, South Carolina will “finally be able to begin the journey to repair the crumbling and deadly roads” in the state, thanks to passage earlier this year of legislation commonly referred to as the “Roads Bill.” The presentation will explain how the increased funding will be phased in during a six-year period and how SCDOT will ramp up projects during that time to match the available funding. Details will be provided on a 10-year investment plan, which will mainly focus on rural road safety, pavements, bridges and interstate widening.
