Angels among us

There’s something about the holiday season that seems to especially bring out the best in us.

Most recently, we received a phone call at the C-I from the manager of the local Roses store in Camden. Apparently, an individual showed up at the store and informed management that they would like to settle all lay-away accounts at the store. This person then wrote a check to cover all these purchases.

The exact dollar amount wasn’t available right then, but according to the manager, “it was enough to buy a new car.”

This person stated that they wished to remain anonymous and they hoped their act of generosity would inspire others to similar actions.

It’s a wonderful thing -- especially in these times of what sometimes seems like overwhelming negativity -- to see there are still plenty of good things being done by plenty of good people in this world. It’s a wonderful example to which we can all aspire.

Obviously, not everyone can commit acts of random kindness of that magnitude, but pretty much all of us can do something. Whether it’s a kind word to someone feeling down or a cash donation to a worthy cause, random acts of kindness make the world a far better place.

Happily, Kershaw County is blessed with so many who do so much good and we are grateful for you all.

So a mighty big, heartfelt thanks to this anonymous angel and, just as important, a big thanks to our angels everywhere.

May we all be inspired by your example.
