The Lake Wateree Association/Wateree Homeowners Association (LWA/WHOA) Water Watch group will host a town hall style meeting  Saturday at Rock Bottom Pond, Ridgeway. The public is invited to attend.

In 2017, the LWA/WHOA Water Watch volunteer group was awarded $20,500 from Duke Energy’s Water Resource Fund to conduct more research and recommend action to address the growing presence of harmful algae on Lake Wateree. The purpose of Saturday’s meeting is to share the results and recommendations of the study, according to Johnny Deal of LWA.

“We are working with an outstanding team of research scientists and grad students from USC’s School of Environmental Health Sciences, National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the Baruch Institute for Marine and Coastal Sciences, who will be there to present findings and recommendations from research conducted this past year,” Deal said. “We have made great progress, but there’s a lot still to do to stop the spread of algae on Wateree. The ultimate solutions include you! Please join us.”

The meeting will be held at Rock Bottom Pond, 1530 Buck Hill Road, Ridgeway, starting at 9 a.m. For more information email or go to the website at
