Hello, 2018

We hope everyone has started the New Year with vim, vigor and a sense of optimism.

Indeed, this community has much to be proud of and thankful for – and plenty of work to do.

We hope the New Year brings some resolution to some ongoing issues. Various local government bodies, for example, are working on trying to resolve issues such as the funding of school resource officers, allocation and deployment of public services and growth v. infrastructure. Kershaw County is growing and that growth, while welcome, will present challenges.

We hope to see many success stories come from the new Central Carolina Technical College as students begin to utilize the new facilities there. We hope to see our economy improve and our businesses grow and thrive. We saw some newcomers come to our community, including well-known names such as Starbucks, Kay Jewelers and Fire House Subs, and a new Hampton Inn is on the way. We want to see more, much more, at all levels, in 2018.

Above all, we want to see our community become more and more engaged in its own future – and we want to see this happen with good will, sound reasoning and civil discourse. We have no use for divisiveness and negativity for its own sake – and there is no time, or room, for that sort of thing, anyway.

Happy New Year! Now let’s get to work.
