Dogs second, Demons third in Chesterfield tournament

Camden fell to Forest Hills (N.C.), 52-49, last Friday night in the championship game of the 18th annual Chesterfield High School Basketball Classic.

The Bulldogs won their first two pairings in the eight-team boys tournament by topping Union Academy (N.C.) and the host Golden Rams on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

In the title pairing, Camden (6-6) trailed, 14-8, after the first quarter and 23-17 at halftime.

Ron McKie’s charges were led by a season-high 22 points from senior guard Cam Jefferson who joined senior forward Jericho Murphy on the all-tournament team.

In the third-place game, Lugoff-Elgin breezed to a 662-43 win over Chesterfield. L-E (10-2) opened the event with a win over McBee before falling to Forest Hills last Thursday.

Leading the way for Garrett Knight and company was senior forward Arturo Sealy with 23 points. Sealy was also named to the all-tournament team. Next for the Demons (10-2) were seniors Kevon Roberson and Bradwin Salmond with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
