L-E SENIOR CAMERON PAYNE (top) finished sixth in the 220-pound weight class in last weekend’s Bearcat Invitational.

With nine wrestlers posting top eight finishes, Lugoff-Elgin placed third in last weekend’s Bearcat Invitational hosted by Rock Hill High school.

The host Bearcats won the 28-team event with 212.50 points followed by Lake Norman (N.C.) High School with 181.50. The Demons were next with 155.50 points.

Senior Devin Wilson was the top finisher for Ted Monroe’s charges with a second at 132 pounds. Freshman Brice Carron was third at 106. Fourth-place finishes for the Demons were supplied by junior Hunter Mathis (126), senior Lorenzo McGee (138) and senior Jacob Carron (160).

Sophomores Jacob Vincent (120), Eli McGee (145) and senior Cameron Payne (220) finished sixth in their respective weight divisions while sophomore Jay Wilson was seventh at 113 pounds.

The Demons will host Hartsville and Darlington tonight in a Region 6-4A tri-match at 6 p.m. with the winner earning the conference championship and the right to host the first two rounds of the 4A Lower State playoffs on Saturday, Feb. 3

Weather wipes out Friday hoops slate: Even tough Kershaw County schools were in session last Friday, their basketball opponents were out of school due to lingering issues from last weekend’s winter storm Grayson.

Two of the three scheduled contests will be made up while Camden’s home game with Crestwood, since it was a non-region contest, will not be made up.

Lugoff-Elgin was to have hosted Hartsville in a Region 6-4A doubleheader while North Central was to have hosted Region 4-AA rival Cheraw. The Cheraw at North Central doubleheader has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 7 in a 6 p.m. start at The Castle in Boonetown. The Hartsville at L-E games will be played on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m.
