All boys and girls between the ages of nine through 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2018 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship at Camden’s E. Clarkson Rhame City Arena on Broad Street.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20, with practice and registration beginning at 2:30 p.m. and contest starting at 3 p.m.

The championship, sponsored by the Knights since 1972, is to promote youth activity and enjoyment. All contestants will attempt 15 free throws. In the event of a tie, a five shot tie-breaker “shootout” will be implemented until a clear winner emerges in each age and gender group. Competition will be by individual age and gender brackets and we especially invite more girls to participate due to past experience with no contestants in some age brackets.

Aside from giving youth and their families the opportunity to have fun, the championship also gives winners the opportunity to participate in the regional contest and the state competition in March. Scores from state competitions are used to determine international champions.

No entry fee is required and age eligibility is based on their age as of Jan. 1, 2018.

Entry forms are available at Kershaw County Recreation Department on West DeKalb Street in Camden. Contestants may also register the day of the event with the permission and signature of a parent.

Anyone seeking further information on the competition should contact Craig Deluhery at 438-5493
