Readers will notice a story by Senior Writer Martin L. Cahn on today’s front page about the annual Legislative Luncheon, held last week at the ALPHA Center in Camden.

The event, which started a number of years ago, was yet another idea put into place by the late Bobby Jones, former educator, politician and community activist who passed away in November. Jones, always a man of the people, had the idea to create an informal event where people could meet and chat with members of our state legislative delegation as well as local government officials, business people and other interested members of the community.

This year’s event was something of a tribute to Jones, who was not only involved in county politics but was a passionate advocate and worker for the ALPHA Center.

Jones was a firm believer in honest conversation and in bringing people together to solve issues in a manner that was beneficial to everyone; indeed, stories told by those who spoke at the event reflect that. The man’s persistence, commitment and work ethic, coupled with a down-to-earth and genuine love of people went a long way in tackling and solving issues in this community.

His was and is an example we all can and should seek to emulate.
