The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s annual Point-In-Time (PIT) homeless count will take place in Kershaw County January 24 through 28. Volunteers from the community and local nonprofit organizations will gather information to identify Kershaw County’s homeless population. Last year, 42 persons were identified through the PIT Homeless Count as living outside, on the streets, in abandoned buildings or in an emergency/transitional shelter. The collected data is used to help create and evaluate services for homeless individuals in the county.

If anyone interested in assisting or if you know of someone who is homeless, contact Marie Sheorn at the United Way of Kershaw County at (803) 432-0951.
